A month worth of updates together!

I was mostly absent from the action for weeks 8 and 9 due to personal reasons and then down with cough and fever during Week 10. But the show went on thanks to Vishwajeet, Shivam and Rahul!

Practice, Practice, Practice

Since before going on break, I had covered basics of Scratch (mit.scratch.edu), the students got a lot of practice with building fun games with scratch. Along the way they got hands-on practice with using programming constructs like variables, conditionals, and loops.

Shivam helped them with topics they needed revision in like flow charts and Calc formulas. He taught them Pivot tables, which they were, interestingly, happy about.

It was fun to see the games they built and the doubts / “bugs” they came up with. Yep, they are familiar with the concepts of bugs very well now 😂

To reiterate the importance of debugging, I came up with a worksheet that had questions with flowcharts with some logical error, they had to find and fix so the algorithm did what it was intended to do.

Surprise Sunday Visit

Once I was back from my travel, I paid a surprise visit to the Campus. I was sensing some low energy and hence thought of giving them some “motivation”. I like to think it worked.

The Dino Game Wrap-up

Finally, the Dinosaur game we were building together in class came to an end. The decision to build this as a follow-along project turned out to be great.

Teaching broadcast-receive was specially interesting in the context of Game Over. I have a few ideas to make it better the next time. Also, Space Invaders as a second project might also be a good idea since it can help cover nested loops to draw invaders in grid.

Frappeverse Soon!

Work has been going on behind the scenes in planning a trip to Frappeverse Mumbai, 2026! All the students and BWH team are going to Mumbai for the annual open source conference by Frappe.

Exam Time!

Ever since the exam dates were announced, the students seemed to be in stress, Chetna team sensed this and arranged a fun day filled with Yoga, games and Zumba!

Final week is here and so are the exams: English, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Mathematics will mostly go away next quarter, or maybe not? (Discrete Mathematics?)

I will post another update next week when the exams are over!
